Leinster Bronze for Pauline Lambe

The Leinster Intermediate County cross-country was held in Heywood College Ballinakill Co Laois last Sunday with 61 ladies and 79 men taking part. Overall it was a good course with firm underfoot conditions and a few testing hills on the 2k lap. In the Ladies race over 4k Pauline Lambe was up at the front of the field from the start and settled into third place behind the Kilmore athletes Fiona Kehoe and Jackie Carty. Pauline ran a very steady race and was ahead of Bridget Clarke going into the final lap. With 250 metres to go the Na Fianna athlete made a move and passed Pauline but Pauline responded to regain third spot and take the bronze medal in 15.07. Maire-Triona Keane ran a strong last lap and finished in 5th place on 15.21 with Georgina Tuohey 20th in 16.28 and Deirdre Lambe 22nd in 16.35 to completing the team scoring. Mary Daly was next in 32nd place in 17.02 and Una Mullen 48th in 17.38. In the club scoring the team took the Silver medal with 50 points, just 3 behind Clonliffe on 47 point and Kilmore third on 78 points. Offaly took the bronze county medals finishing on the same points as Meath but Meath taking silver on count back. Dublin took the gold medals with 35 points.
